I heard that the manga is ending, but I don't think it will end with the absence of main characters? I mean, if anything, Ed would become immortal thanks to 'immortal father' and maybe with the help of PS father, Al can get body back? And bam, the end? I doubt that'll be the ending..but I don't think they'll die... hopefully not :(
 

Ending so soon? [i.e. in the foreseeable future?] But there are more loose ends and subplots in the manga than I can count. I can't imagine it ending in a hurry o.o

Anyways, I started screaming at the end of this chapter, I yelled for my sister to come and make me a bit happier or cry with me... Uwaah~, the end is near. But about Hoho being the Philosopher's stone must be really important, like reviving Edo & Al or something. Uwaah~. I feel like crying.
 

yep, about 80 is the correct number, it will indeed be ending very soon.
theres an interveiw with hiromu on the site, read it, it says.

p.s. there is a scanslation or 2 out, google it. it's nowhere near FTA standards, and you can tell this at a glance (crappy fonts ftl) but its out there.

Heya! Just finished reading that interview (the one posted on the "Projects" page under the FMA chapters, right?) and I couldn't find a projected chapter count. Is there another interview I'm not seeing? (Plus that one was from early 2005; wouldn't things have changed a bit by now?) ...Not that I think Arakawa-sensei COULDN'T wrap things up in three chapters, being a genius and all. *grin* I hope she doesn't, though; don't know what I'm going to read when FMA's over...T_T

Hmmm i have to start to seek for another shonen soon;( I have been fascinated with Darker Than Black anime recently but the manga is a piece of crap... i don;t want fma to eeeenddd;(
but you know, sakkoanna is right, clearings things up in freakin three chapters is just impossible. What about Riza's tatooted back? What about Izumi? What about the last human sacrifice (who will definitely not be Mustang, heh;)? There's too much complicated cases to explain so i think that there will be more than 80 in the end... if i am not right, i will be down for weeks.

I seriously doubt there will only be 80 chapters. Unless Arakawa decides to just kill everyone to end it, which would suck. Besides all the small things that need to be wrapped up, like what is so special about Xing-ese alchemy, how Ed will live and what will happen to Ling there's still the giant conflict between the homunculi/father/Armestis military and all the good guys. I doubt that will take up only four more chapters.

I don't think Ed is quite dead...yet. If Arakawa kills him and Al off, it'd be more suspenseful...perhaps anticipated, even. Not everyone's death can be Aeris-like, right? XD

At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Next chapter would be an excellent time for an Elric family reunion, ne? Complete with magical healing Renkinjutsu? :D
 

I'd be very annoyed if it was ended in four more chapters with majic heelin powaz. I can sense van hohenheim becoming the key to a abrupt end here D:

there are way too many loose ends... we still don't even know what roy and grumman were plotting, much less Scar's brother's research, What Olivier plans to do now that she has "a seat" and so on.
 

a) Ed isn't going to die. At least, not now.
b) The manga has to be longer than 80 chapters. There's still Ed and Al's main plot... then the Homunculi... and Roy... and Lin/g. It can't be done in four chapters.
 

It can't possibly end at chapter 80. There's just no way.
Ms. Arakawa likes to throw down plot points and then explain them, which takes time. I don't think that three or four chapters is enough.

Where is the interview that says it'll be eighty?
 

I believe it will not end just like that at chapter 80...Arakawa sensei will at least explain about everything before ending...
Plus i have a feeling that the adventures of Elric bros will stretch to Xing... ( i mean they travel to Xing)^^|||

We have not even known Scar's real name yet...(coz Arakawa sensei mentioned that she have already set his name but will reveal it later in the story)
 

I believe that estimate of Hagaren lasting eighty chapters was made relatively early on, so I would not surprised if Arakawa-sensei has, while she's been working on the manga, realized that she can't fit the entire thing in eighty chapters.

In fact, I think I read somewhere that Arakawa had made a comment about her finding that recently she doesn't have enough pages to tell as much of the story as she wants each month. (This might have been on a tankoubon flap or something, or I might have just completely made it up, I dunno.)

Anyway, I'm 99% sure that the manga still has another year or so on it. (The 1% is me thinking that if she moves things really quickly as Arakawa said they would as it neared the end, it could be possible that the manga could end with 80 chapters, or at least the low eighties. I doubt this is what will happen, though.)
