That was weak...

I only seized half as much as the time I watched that Dragon Ball Z episode. You know the one with all the fighting and powering up... Ah, who am I kidding they spent the whole 30 minutes getting yellower.

wow, people DO actually read my posts (it's a first for acknowledgement, so yay for not being invisible ^^)

though yeah... the only banned episode of pokemon that i felt deserved to be banned was the dratini episode (the old man damn near blew ash's head off with a shotgun, that episode WAS very violent o_0)
 

I'm upset that that Whiscash episode never got aired AT ALL. I mean, not that it seemed particularly interesting or anything, but there was really no reason to do more than postpone it for a little while. :|

But I just find America's anxiousness over Jynx hilarious. Postponing that one Jynx episode because it was slotted to air during Black History Month = comedy gold.

Juushin Enbu is all Cynthia, I have no part in it, so I'm sorry to say that I just don't know. I'll ask her about it when I next talk to her though.

And before anyone decides to take this opportunity to bring up Boku x Neko? and Mushishi as well... I'll try to get them done before the end of the year also. A holiday treat, if you will. (It might not be BokuNeko chapter 2 though, because we haven't gotten that translated at all yet. Most likely it'll be BokuNeko chapter 3, which was ORIGINALLY chapter 2 when it was printed in Asuka... yeah, it's a little confusing.)
 

hmmm... the banned episodes were, if memory serves:

jynx episodes: someone actually wrote in the the company that they were suing because jynx was the steriotypical black woman (I actually had the opportunity to read said document... page long about how jynx discriminated against black women)i think they aired the other episode after changing her face from black to purple

porygon: seizures from the screen flashing too quickly (I think it's fine if you just slow the flash down enough) and this episode's the reason the porygon evolutions will never be fetured in any future episodes

dratini: LOTS of gun use and violence (i can see the reasoning behind this one... it was creepy =_=)

wiscash: the episode featured the earthquake attack, and one of the states(i think california) had just had a major earthquake, so they cancelled the airing so as not to offend people (don't see how it would offend anyone though)

tower of terror (pokemon tower episode): well, you know the 9/11 scare? the title of this episode alone got it taken off the air (aired it once again after they changed the name)

hmm, that's all i can think of.... any i'm forgetting?

ah yes... the beach contest where james had monsterous boobs (this is the episode i acutally started questioning his sexuality XD)

but the porygon episode was banned because it caused japan-wide seizures in little kids due to the flashing lights caused by (i think) pikachu's lightning attack in the computer (though i can't help but wonder how many of those kids were stuck right against the tv at the time >_>)

i think this episode's fine as long as the flash is slowed down, but i guess they didn't want to take chances of the same thing in the usa (though i don't see the relevance of never airing the porygon evolutions... trauma?)

Actually, they're still really cautious about Jynx even now that her skin is purple. The episode I mentioned before was supposed to air in February 2006, but KidsWB aired it something like two months later because they didn't want to air a Jynx episode during Black History Month. (I'm not kidding about this.)

The Porygon episode technically would be just fine to air again if they edited the hazardous scenes - they redefined their animation techniques during the four-month hiatus following the episode's airing to make sure the same thing wouldn't happen. Due to the huge controversy over the incident, however, I highly doubt that Shogakukan or TV Tokyo will ever do something like that (I believe the Japanese government has the original tape of the episode locked up anyway). Has Shogakukan or anyone actually made an official announcement stating that Porygon and its evolutions will never appear again? I have a hard time believing that with Porygon-Z recently being introduced in the games. (Or it could just be that Game Freak is deliberately pushing for the Porygon line to appear, and created Z to bait the anime team into it. It's an amusing thought!)

The Whiscash episode actually never even aired in Japan - the major earthquake had occurred in Niigata, I believe. It was canceled out of empathy for the people who had been affected in the quake (which was a lot - the earthquake shook a large portion of Honshu!). It's similar to why the twelfth episodes of School Days and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (in School Days' case, the final episode) were postponed after that high school girl beheaded her father this past summer (though they were later aired).

I've never heard of Tower of Terror being taken off the air (that would be stupid, since nobody would ever associate "Tower of Terror" with the WTC attacks anyway), but I have heard that "Tentacool and Tentacruel" was taken off the air after 9/11 because it featured the destruction of large skyscrapers (and the scene of Tentacruel smashing a building was taken out of the opening). I think this might have just been Cartoon Network's doing or something, though, because the DVD box set released last year included that episode, and the opening sequence was intact. ("Tower of Terror" was also included, under that same title. "Beauty and the Beach" was not, but that's not surprising. It was a crap episode anyway.)

i'd read somewhere about the porygon scare that the company decided to not air the evolutions (if it stated the initial reason, i can't remember... i'll see about finding the page again)

though i do remember that when i was watching pokemon on tv, they skipped the tower of terror episode that time around, and aired it under a different name the next time around, maybe they got over it? idk... boggles the mind @_@
